Visualization (or more precisely, computer-supported data visualization) is a study of transformation from data to visual representations in order to facilitate effective and efficient cognitive processes in performing tasks involving data. The fundamental measure for effectiveness is correctness and that for efficiency is the time required for accomplishing a task. "Visualization can be considered as a technology, a collection of methods, techniques, and tools developed and applied to satisfy a need. Hence, standard technological measures apply: Visualization has to be effective and efficient. To measure these, an economic point of view is adopted. Instead of trying to understand why visualization works (see previous sections), here visualization is considered from the outside, and an attempt is made to measure its profit." (Fekete2008)
