Visualizations use the flexibility of notation with caution as inconsistent use can cause confusion or misinterpretation. For example, the same data value could be mapped to different visual representations, causing confusion, miscommunication and misinterpretation. A value "good" mapped to blue in one situation but green in another requires viewers to pay detailed attention.
