Visualizations establish specific representations/metaphors, which shape discussion. For example, graph trees can be visualized as hierarchical node-link diagram or with the enclosure metaphor as circle pack. While the metaphor could be changed in discussion, visualization add an additional hurdle against such conceptual switch.
